Watch CosmoLex’s AI Features in Action:
A 15-Minute Demo of AI Filtering, Document Summaries, and Client Intake

What does AI actually look like inside your practice management software, not in a slide deck, but on a real matters list, a real document, a real intake form?

Bob Ambrogi, publisher of LawSites and one of legal tech’s most trusted independent voices, recently invited CosmoLex onto his How It Works demo series to answer exactly that. Erica Birstler, CosmoLex’s Senior Director of Market Research and Competitive Intelligence, walks through the AI features already live in the platform — plus a sneak peek that, as of this week, is no longer a sneak peek.

Watch the full 15-minute demo below, or jump to the highlights. https://www.youtube.com/embed/OE3XThLuMs4

1. AI Filtering: just ask for the report you need (1:52)

Every firm with a single source of truth hits the same wall: the data is in there, but getting it out takes too many clicks. CosmoLex’s AI filtering lets you type what you want in plain English — on your matters list, invoice list, time cards, or any other list view — and the system applies the right filters, operators, and amounts for you.

The example from the demo is one every managing partner should steal: “Show me matters that have an unpaid balance greater than zero and a trust balance greater than zero.” In seconds, you have a list of matters with unearned trust funds sitting idle — money you’ve done the work for but haven’t billed against. Save it as a named view (“Unearned Trust Funds”), share it with your billing team, and re-run it any time.

2. AI Document Summarization: the gist without the read-through (4:15)

Open any document in CosmoLex’s native storage and click the AI symbol to get a paragraph-level summary, key fields (parties, court, effective date), and a structured outline, deep enough to be useful, short enough to actually read. In the demo, Erica summarizes a custody agreement in one click.

3. AI Intake Form Builder: from blank page to case-specific form in seconds (5:56)

This is the one to watch — and as of this week, it’s the centerpiece of our AI Intake launch. Most firms handle intake with Word templates and email back-and-forth, not because they don’t want automation, but because building case-specific forms from scratch is the barrier that stops them from starting.

The AI form builder removes that barrier two ways:

  • Migrate what you have. Upload an existing Word or PDF intake form and prompt: “create an intake form based on the attached.” It becomes a fully editable digital form; add, remove, and rearrange fields as needed.
  • Start from nothing. No templates? Type “build me an intake form for a divorce case with custody,” and the AI generates the personal, case, and custody fields that case type actually requires, 95% of what you need, ready to tailor.

As Erica puts it in the demo, firms can build custom intake forms for every case type they handle in under five minutes each, and then send them straight to clients from the platform.

4. Coming next: AI Workflows (11:02)

The demo closes with a prototype of AI-built workflows, the “then what?” after a form comes back. Describe your process (“this is a client intake form, it’s family law”) and the agent proposes a flow: conflict check, schedule a meeting, request payment, send documents, follow-ups. Approve it, configure the details (whose calendar, what consultation fee), and a process that used to take a consultant to design is live in about 30 seconds. Basic workflows are rolling out this month, with payments and document steps following this fall.

Why this approach to AI

Before building any of these features, the CosmoLex product team ran hundreds of customer interviews — not just about workflow pain points, but about what lawyers are actually comfortable letting AI do. The result is AI that removes clicks and setup barriers rather than replacing judgment: no learning curve, no prompt engineering degree required, and everything inside the platform where your matters, billing, and accounting already live.

See it on your own matters

The best demo is the one you run yourself. Start a free trial, no credit card required, or schedule a personalized demo and we’ll walk through AI intake with your own case types.

FAQ

What AI features does CosmoLex include?

CosmoLex includes AI filtering (natural-language search across matters, invoices, and time entries), AI document summarization, and an AI intake form builder. AI-built workflows are rolling out in August 2026.

Can CosmoLex’s AI build intake forms from my existing templates?

Yes. Upload an existing Word or PDF intake form and the AI converts it into an editable digital form. You can also generate case-specific forms from a plain-language prompt with no source document.

Does AI document summarization work with third-party document storage?

AI summarization currently works with documents in CosmoLex’s native document storage.
